Fractal Dimension Indicator
The objective of this month's indicator is to help identify trending versus non-trending markets. It provides only the indication of trending, but does not offer the direction of the trend. For this reason, the indicator cannot be used on its own, and a Strategy Setup has therefore not been provided in the plug-in.
This indicator appeared to show some benefits in my tests. However, a significant problem that I noticed is that the indicator seemed to be most effective when it produced the fewest trades. In other words, by using a tight set of parameters, the system performed best but produced few trades. When the parameters were loosened, the system produced more trades but they tended to be less effective. In general, the best trading rules in the automated search are both effective and produce a lot of trades. Unfortunately, the suggested use of this indicator did not fall into this category in my tests. Nevertheless, the plug-in also contains an alternative approach, which is to enter trades during non-trending periods. This implementation may prove to be more effective than the suggested approach.
By simply importing this month's plug-in as mentioned above, this month's Trading Rules will automatically be made available within your AutoSearch and OneClick searches. The plug-in's implementation into the Generic AutoSearch applies to most OneClick searches. But you can enter the OneClick Setups for any particular search to verify which AutoSearch it uses. Some may use AutoSearches other than Generic AutoSearch. In addition, you can also check the Always box instead of Random box to force a trading rule to always be used in the strategies generated by the OneClick Search. This will allow you to focus your efforts specifically on this indicator, continually exploring it alongside other indicators.
